Manhandled (1924)
Manhandled turns 88 today! Before she was Norma Desmond, Gloria Swanson was a star of the silent screen and, frankly, she was Norma Desmond.
This 1924 beauty starring Gloria and Tom Moore is your classic tale of girl succeeding and then being accused of allowing herself to be “manhandled” in order to succeed. I mean it can’t be talent, right?
There’s some awesome footage of NYC subways in this one. Enjoy!

Interesting cast, but a special shout-out for Lilyan Tashman, musical-comedy star on stage, silent & sound film, an all-too-short career and life. This was the first or second film she made after moving to Hollywood in 1924. She and Ann Pennington were Ziegfeld Follies alumni, and Frank Morgan, another Broadway veteran appears here long before his film career took off, as well. Now I’ll have to watch it! Hard to believe Gloria Swanson and Erich von Stroheim were able to harness their egos long enough to make a film together — Oh, wait, they never finished it . . nevermind.
