Top 5 Ice Cream Scenes in Movies

Last week @NataleeDara on Twitter objected to the Top Egg Scenes in Movies. Hey, some people don’t like eggs and that scene in Cool Hand Luke is pretty gross. So I so generously offered to make a list of scenes with @NataleeDara’s fav food, snack or treat and she picked ice cream. Awesome! Except I couldn’t think of any ice cream scenes. But with a little perseverance, masterful use of Google, and lot of help for the always amazing Wade Sheeler, I bring you…

Top 5 Ice Cream Scenes in Movies

5. The Accidental Spy (2001)

You know how ice cream gets your hands all sticky? A naked Jackie Chan figures out it’s not just your hands in The Accidental Spy.

4. Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai (1999)

Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai

Ice cream is so good at bringing people together, it can even bring together a Mafia hit man and the little girl who will inherit his business.

3. For Your Eyes Only (1981)

How do you get a naked, underage seductress out of your bed? James Bond does it by promising her ice cream.

2. Down By Law (1986)

This one just explains itself.

1. Its’ a Wonderful Life (1946)

“Is this the ear you can’t hear on? George Bailey, I’ll love you till the day I die.” ‘Nuff said.

Best list I’ve ever seen! Couldn’t agree more. Brandy is awesome!!

  2. I never use coconut in a recipe or eat coconut or pass a coconut in a store without hearing Robert Anderson’s (young George Bailey) voice: “Say, brainless, don’t you know where coconuts come from?”

Just for you, my mom Clare’s Black & White Squares

        Grease 8 x 8 pan
        Preheat oven to 325 F

        1/3 C butter
        1 C white sugar
        2 eggs
        1 tsp vanilla

        3/4 C flour
        1/2 tsp baking powder
        1/4 tsp salt

Divide mixture, adding 2 tbs cocoa to one half and 1/2 C cocoanut (I use medium shred) to the other.

Spread the chocolate base over the pan and top with the coconut. Bake for 30 to 40 (you know your own oven) minutes. Cool. Frost with your favourite chococlate frosting.

The best ice cream movie: The Good Humor Man (1950) with Jack Carson. I couldn’t find any youtube clips.

Great list. I would also include the late night dog/refrigerator/ice cream/whip cream scene from the Tao of Steve. Could not find a clip so here’s the other ice cream scene from the film:

Great list, but I think the ice cream scene from Witness belongs here. Harrison Ford screws up his face and tells the dipweed who sticks his ice cream cone in his face, “You’re making a big mistake.” Then pops him one.

Best ice cream scene is between Uma Thermon (sp?) and John Travolta in Pulp Fiction about what makes a $5 shake…, we sold a $5 shake at our cafe for 10 years as a nod to that scene. 🙂

    2 favorites:
    1) In The Stunt Man, ice cream enters into a discussion of a character’s dark past. It is not seen in the movie, but the story is vivid.

    2) not exactly a movie, but the ice cream truck in Part 3 of “Trailer Park Heroes” is EPIC.

I’d add “Kramer vs. Kramer”: the largely improvised conflict in the kitchen between Dustin Hoffman and Justin Henry

That scene from It’s a Wonderful Life is my favourite too!

There’s a nice scene in the early Douglas Sirk film ‘Has Anybody Seen My Gal’ with Rock Hudson and Charles Coburn preparing ice cream sundaes, and an uncredited James Dean as a demanding customer:
