Film Friday Weekly Roundup
It’s been quite a week in the classic film blog-o-verse. First, The Cinementals vanished into the ether. It’s a lot like Rick and Louis wandering into the fog at the end of Casablanca, but this time in reverse. It’s the end of a beautiful friendship, not a beginning. Then, scandal at the LAMB! There’s some vote counting controversy over the Best Classic Movie Blog LAMMY. It’s was 2000 and hanging chads all over again. Also, PCF warded off a mucho serious spam attack yesterday. You may notice that you’re now required to register and login to comment. It’s a necessary evil, my friends – there is no classic movie version of Viagra. What’s a girl to do? Put her head down and power through – power through the interwebs that is, to roundup the best and brightest of the week. So you enjoy, and I’ll just go and wait for the postman to show up with more dvds, a result (apparently) of some lost weekend, drunken buying binge I went on a few weeks ago. Happy reading and happy viewing!
Silent Volume, who apparently remembered to go to TIFF Bell Lightbox for the Nanook of the North screening, recaps cinemas first documentary.
Silent London keeps the silent Hitchcock hits coming with The Manxman. (Guess what? Easy Virtue arrived in the mail yesterday at PCF Headquarters!)
Silent London also polled the interwebs about Moroder’s Metropolis with surprising results.
Noir an Chick Flicks tributizes Blanche Sweet, reminding me to change my name to Blanche Sweet.
Jake Hinson of The Night Editor looks at The Making of Night of the The Hunter. Sooo worth the read.
A Mythical Monkey reminded us that Tuesday was Peter Lorre’s birthday. I don’t know about you, but I celebrated by being slightly creepy and a little smarmy all day.
11 East 14th Street focuses on the Vertiable Von Stroheim – In true Von Stroheim fashion, this is Part 1. I hope it’s eventually 14 hours long.
In 2005, the movie poster for Metropolis fetched $690,000. Can it hit $1 million this go round?
And now, for your viewing enjoyment, Krazy Kat Goes A-Wooing a Tiny Purple Dinosaur!
